Memory

u  Memory is an organism’s ability to store retain and recall information and experiences.
u  Memory is our ability to encode store retail and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain.

“Memory is the process of maintaining information over time”
u  Memory is essential to all our lives without a memory of the past we cannot operate in the present or think about the future.
u  Without memory we could not learn anything.
u  Memory is involved in processing   vast amounts of information .This information takes many different from: images ,sound or meaning.
Ø Two types of memory
              1.     Short-term memory
u  The ability to look at items for a second and then remember what it looked like .
u  It is also called working memory (STM).It is recall without practicing something that happened recently .
    2..     LONG TERM MEMORY
u  Long term memory (LTM) is the ability to store more information long period of time like phone no. names and address from when we were kids.
u  Long-term memory can store much larger quantities of information for unlimited duration (some time a whole life of information)
